Did You Know Your Nose Can Make a Huge Difference in Your Health?

Keeping Your Nose Healthy

By Paul Thomas, Super-Health Coach

Most people think their nose is just for smelling things and enjoying the myriad of aromas life has to offer. It also helps stimulate the digestive juices — in fact, some even say that if you can’t smell you can’t taste, either, as the two are connected. But here’s another function that no one ever talks about: the nose acts as a filter!

That’s Right, Your Nose is the Much Needed Filter for Your Very Sensitive Lungs.

As you breathe air, the moist, tiny hairs in your nostrils trap and catch dust and other airborne particles, chemicals and various nasties that would not be healthy for your lungs to take on. This filtering action is taking place in every breath you take whether awake or asleep. This one function of your nose just might be one of the most important actions your body takes to keep you healthy.

What is the Medical Definition of Your Nose?

“The nose and nasal cavity form the main external opening for the respiratory system and are the first section of the body’s airway—the respiratory tract through which air moves. The nose is a structure of the face made of cartilage, bone, muscle, and skin that supports and protects the anterior portion of the nasal cavity. The nasal cavity is a hollow space within the nose and skull that is lined with hairs and mucus membrane. The function of the nasal cavity is to warm, moisturize, and filter air entering the body before it reaches the lungs. Hairs and mucus lining the nasal cavity help to trap dust, mold, pollen and other environmental contaminants before they can reach the inner portions of the body. Air exiting the body through the nose returns moisture and heat to the nasal cavity before being exhaled into the environment.”

And, What If Your Nose Easily Bleeds When You Blow It?

If you experience nose bleeds periodically you may have weakened blood vessels which would cause your nose to bleed when you blow it. Nose bleeds are fairly common, but you can help strengthen the blood vessels in your nose with certain nutrients that help strengthen the entire vascular system.
